Welcome to the website for Anchor Baptist Church!
We want you to know that we are delighted that you found us and are willing to spend some of your time getting to know us better.
Our desire as Anchor Baptist Church is to share the good news of the Son of God with everyone we meet- both in word and in deed.
We believe that the Gospel Changes Everything. That the good news of Jesus Christ should have implications in every facet of our lives- both eternal and temporal. We echo the words of the Apostle Paul in Romans 1:16: For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God to salvation for everyeone who believes....

OUR MISSION STATEMENT
Our mission, as Anchor Baptist Church, is to glorify God by proclaiming the gospel of Jesus Christ in our community and throughout the world; by obeying the commission of Christ to make disciples of all men; by God-honoring, Biblically sound worship; by the edification and equipping of all believers through Biblically purposed fellowship; by Spirit-enabled preaching of the Word of God; by our obedience to His Word; by showing our dependency upon Him through prayer.
OUR MESSAGE
As Anchor, we believe that a relationship with Jesus Christ is the most important aspect of life. He not only offers salvation from sin, but restoration of fellowship with a Holy, Righteous God, peace and hope for the hurting, rest to the weary, and friendship in times of trouble. It is our desire that you come to know Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior. The Gospel ("good news") is the person and work of Jesus Christ. When one confesses his sin before God, turns from and rejects his sin, and places his faith in Jesus' death and resurrection, the Bible says that a person is "born again." That relationship once severed by man's sin is fully and completely restored by Jesus Christ. The debt we owed to God for our sin was once and for all paid by His Son. At salvation we are no longer under the wrath of God. We are His adopted children. The Spirit of God resides within our minds
and hearts and authenticates us as God's own. We begin to grow and mature day by
day by immersing ourselves in God's Word.
OUR WORSHIP
Our desire is to be Christ-centered in our corporate worship. There is a mixture of new
and old hymns, choruses, and songs all done in a way the exalts Christ and not
ourselves. Worship through music should never be done in a way which the
distinction betweenBiblical truth and worldly entertainment is blurred. If you love
Christ-centered music, come join us.
We believe in the verbal, plenary inspiration of the Old and New Testaments; that they are inerrant in the original writing, and that they are the supreme and final authority of faith and life (2 Timothy 3:16,17; 2 Peter 1:19-21).
We believe in one God, eternally existing; that in the unity of the Godhead there are three personal distinctions - Father, Son, and Holy Spirit - yet one in substance and equal in every divine perfection (Exodus 20:23; 1 Corinthians 8:6; Matthew 28:19).We believe in God's direct creation of the universe, without the use of pre-existent material, and apart from any process of evolution whatsoever, according to the Genesis account (Genesis 1:1-31; Exodus 20:11; Colossians 1:16,17; John 1:3; Hebrews 11:3). We believe in the absolute deity of the Son, the Lord Jesus Christ; that He was begotten of the Holy Spirit, and born of Mary, a virgin, and is true God and true man (Isaiah 7:14; Luke 1:35; Galatians 4:4; John 1:1,2,14). We believe that the Lord Jesus Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, as a representative and substitutionary sacrifice, and that all who believe in Him are justified on the ground of His blood (Isaiah 53:4-11; Acts 13:38,39; Romans 3:24,25; 4:5; 5:1,8,9; 6:23) We believe in the bodily resurrection of our crucified Lord, in His ascension into heaven, and in His present life there as High Priest and Advocate (Matthew 28:1-7; Acts 1:8-11; 1 Corinthians 15:4-9; Hebrews 4:14-16; 1 John 1:1,2). We believe in the Holy Spirit as a divine person, equal with the Father and the Son, and of the same substance and nature (Acts 5:3,4; 1 Corinthians 3:16; 6:19).
We believe the Holy Spirit baptizes, seals, and indwells every believer for holy living (Ephesians 1:13; 4:11,12; 5:18; Romans 8:9; 1 Corinthians 12:12,13). We believe that the Holy Spirit bestows grace gifts upon believers to benefit and build the body of Christ (Romans 12:6-8; 1 Corinthians 12:12-28; Ephesians 4:11; 1 Peter 4:10,11). We believe that the sign gifts were needed for growth and authentication of the message of the early church. With the completion of the New Testament and the maturing of the church, the need for such gifts disappeared (Hebrews 2:3,4; 1 Corinthians 13:8-13). We believe that man was created in the image of God, that he sinned and thereby incurred not only physical death, but also that spiritual death which is separation from God, that all human beings are born with a sinful nature and are sinners in thought, word, and deed (Genesis 1:26,27; 3:1-6; Romans 5:12,19; 3:10-13; Titus 1:15,16).We believe that men who continue in impenitence and unbelief are wicked in God's sight, and under the curse. Those who are wicked will be subject to everlasting conscious suffering of the lost (Revelation 20:11-15; 21:8).
We believe that all who receive by faith the Lord Jesus Christ are born again of the Holy Spirit and thereby become children of God (John 1:12,13; 3:3-16; Acts 16:31; Ephesians 2:8,9; Titus 3:5). We believe that the only escape from the condemnation of sin is through redemption wrought by Jesus Christ, when he voluntarily took upon Him a human body and nature, yet without sin, and by His suffering, death and resurrection, made full satisfaction to the justice of God for the sin of man (John 1:1-3,14; 3:1-7; Hebrews 10:4-14). We believe that faith in the finished work of the Lord Jesus Christ is the only condition of salvation from sin, and that this salvation is wholly by grace; that no works, however good, make that salvation more secure (Acts 16:31; Ephesians 2:8,9; Titus 3:5-7; Romans 10:9-13). We believe in the eternal security of the believer, that it is impossible for one born into the family of God ever to be lost (John 6:39,40; 10:28,29; Romans 8:35-39; Jude 1).
We believe that the church universal is a New Testament institution, established by Jesus Christ, Who is its sole Head. It is the spiritual body consisting of all born again believers of the New Testament dispensation (Matthew 16:18; Acts 1:8; 2:1-13; 1 Corinthians 12:12-28; Ephesians 1:22,23). We believe the church universal is manifest through the local New Testament church, which is an organized body of believers, immersed upon credible confession of faith in Jesus Christ, having two offices (pastor and deacons), congregational in polity, autonomous in nature, and banded together for work, worship and observance of the ordinances (Lord's supper and baptism), and the worldwide proclamation of the Gospel (Matthew 18:15-17; 1 Corinthians 1:2; 6:4,5; 7:17; 11:16; 1 Timothy 3:1-15). We believe that the scriptural ordinances of the church are baptism and the Lord's supper, and are to be administered by the local church; that baptism by immersion, should be administered to believers only as a symbol of their belief, and of their death, burial, and resurrection with Him; and that the Lord's supper should be partaken of by baptized believers to show forth His death till He comes (Matthew 28:19,20; Acts 2:41; 8:26-39; Romans 6:3-5; 1 Corinthians 11:23-28; Colossians 2:12).
We believe in that blessed hope, the personal, pre-millennial, pre-tribulational, and imminent return of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, when the church will be gathered together unto Him, and that He will come with His church at the close of the Tribulation to judge the living nations and to set up His kingdom on earth (John 14:1-3; 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18; 1 Corinthians 15:51-58; 2 Thessalonians 2:1-3). We believe in the literal fulfillment of the prophecies and promises of the Scriptures which foretell and assure the future regeneration and restoration of Israel as a nation (Genesis 13:14-17; Jeremiah 15:14,15; 30:6-11; Romans 11). We believe in the bodily resurrection of the just to everlasting blessedness forever with the Lord, and the unjust to the Great White Throne of judgment to receive their everlasting punishment (John 5:27-30; 1 Thessalonians 4:16; Revelation 7:9-17)
Pastor Ryan and Jamie Vanderwarker
The Lord directed Ryan and Jamie to Anchor in the spring of 2009. With the home-going of Pastor Paul Rudy, who had founded the church 18 years earlier, the church called Ryan to become their interim pastor during that difficult transition.
In March of 2010, the church voted unanimously to call Ryan as their full time shepherd. Previous to his call to ABC, Ryan had been involved in a Christian school ministry in Waukegan, IL where he was teaching history and Bible and coaching varsity basketball.
Jamie and Ryan met while pursuing undergraduate studies at Bob Jones University. They were married in August 2002 in Jamie's home town of St. Louis, MO. Ryan and Jamie are the proud parents of two children: Landon (4 yrs) and Karis (1 yr).
Pastor Ryan enjoys playing sports, especially golf, spending time with his wife and kids, landscaping his yard, studying, and passionately cheering on the New York Yankees.
